| 64-year-old Spanish missionary worker, Sister Presentación López Vivar, has been very badly injured in a bomb blast in Rutshuru in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo torn by increasingly violent confrontations involving Tutsi rebels and government forces loyal to president Joseph Kabila.
Sister Presentación (undated archive photo) is being treated for her injuries at a Doctors Without Borders hospital in Rushturu, where both her legs have been amputated.
Born in Tobar (Burgos), Sister Presentación, who belongs to the San José Religious Institution in Girona, previously worked for a number of years in Ruanda.
A second Spanish nun, Sister Clementina Sancho Herrera from Castrillo de Murcia (Burgos), who was with Sister Presentación when the bomb went off, escaped uninjured. |
