An 80-year-old widow was found murdered at her home in Velada (Toldeo) shortly before 10am yesterday by her sister when she popped in for her usual morning visit.

According to a number of fellow residents, there has been a spate of night-time burglaries in the town recently, and robbery is considered to be the most likely motive.

They also said that the victim was found face down with her throat cut, and, given that her bed had not been slept in, they speculate that she may have returned home from visiting her sister next door - as she did every evening - to find the burglars already inside her house.
