| ANYONE who gets the chance should go to Lanzarote for their holidays, stresses Spain’s president, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero.
The country’s leader is featured in a new publicity video on the island’s official tourism website, wearing a shirt unbuttoned at the neck – although, fortunately, not a Hawaiian-print one – standing in front of two palm trees extolling the virtues of the popular holiday destination.
“There are few places in Spain, and in Europe, like Lanzarote,” declares Zapatero, smiling.
“Lanzarote is all about nature, life, rest, and the friendliness of the people.
“I’ve spent several holidays in Lanzarote.
“Of course, anyone who can come should come to Lanzarote.”
He travelled to the island with his family on August 2 to spend his holidays in the official residence of La Mareta, in Costa de Teguise, returning to work on Monday of this week.
Zapatero also chose Lanzarote for his family break in the summers of 2005 and 2006.
