| Officers from the Guardia Civil's Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA), along with Mossos d'Esquadra, local and rural police officers will today continue their search for a lioness spotted on various occasions over the weekend in the provinces of Tarragona, Teruel and Castellón.
Sources from the Guardia Civil have confirmed that today's search will be centred on the Ports de Besseit massif, on the border between all three provinces.
The animal was first spotted close to the town of La Senia in Tarragona on Saturday by some young people who were out for a run. They alerted the local police, saying they were sure they'd seen a lioness.
The following day, Sunday, several other people reported seeing a lioness in the area known as Sant Pere, close to the Ulldecona reservoir in Tarragona, and yesterday there were more supposed sightings in the same area. The police have warned hikers, runners and people out for the day to be especially alert and to avoid this area until the lioness has been recaptured.
As yet no-one seems to know where the lioness could have come from, although there is speculation that she got left behind by a circus that visited recently. |
