| According to the preliminary autopsy report provided by the Instituto Anatómico Forense in Palma de Mallorca, Boyzone singer, Stephen Gately died of natural causes, specifically an acute pulmonary edema.
Pulmonary edema is a condition in which fluid accumulates in the lungs, usually because the heart's left ventricle does not pump adequately. Pulmonary edema can be a chronic condition, or it can develop suddenly and quickly become life threatening.
Sources at the High Court confirmed that no signs of violence had been discovered, but that further samples would now be sent to a laboratory in Barcelona to complete the analysis, which will be ready in two weeks' time.
The judge at High Court number 10 took a witness statement this morning from Gately's husband, Andrew Cowles, and granted permission for the body to be repatriated.
Nevertheless, the High Court made it clear that the case would remain open until all the necessary tests had been carried out, the results had been received and the remaining witnesses who were in the apartment in Port de Andratx at the time had been interviewed.
The 33-year-old singer died in the early hours of Saturday morning as was confirmed by the autopsy report and his death has now been officially recorded as being from natural causes. |
