| 15 restaurateurs, most of them from the north of Spain, have made it to the finals of the National Spanish Omelette Championship to be held in Alicante on November 10th as part of the 'Lomejordelagastronomia.com' event.
The 15 finalists, whose only prerequisite is that they have to work in or own an establishment that serves Spanish omelette (tortilla de patata) on a daily basis, were chosen today by the panel of judges, who will be back in November to taste the final offerings.
Amongst the finalists is Ciri González, from "La Encina" restaurant in Palencia, who has won the competition three times before, and is the defending champion.
The other finalists are Iñaki Rodaballo, from "Mesón del Pirineo" in Pamplona; Cesi Cabello from "Mesón Patio Martín" in Simancas (Valladolid); Ely Velázquez from "El Picoteo de Ely" in Valladolid; Miguel Leal from "Miguel" in San Vicente del Raspeig (Alicante); Joan Antoni Miro and Óscar Santos from "Les Truites" and "Danzarama" respectively, both in Barcelona; Concha Marfil & Alfredo García, from "La Ardosa" & "Sylkar" restaurants in Madrid respectively; Senen González from "Sagartoki" in Vitoria; Gabriel Gómez from "El Perro Que Fuma" in Gijón; María José Martín from "Santos" in Córdoba; Itxaso Cisneros from "Izaro" in Bilbao; Francisco Javier Puertas from "Manila" in Santander and María Fernández from "Mesón O Pote" in Betanzos (La Coruña). Spanish omelettes made by the finalists will be on offer to all the visitors to the "Lomejordelagastronomia.com" fair on November 9th, with the final judging being held the following day.
The event, which has previously been held in San Sebastian, will also host a Spanish omelette making competition for the public to take part in. |
