| A SECOND raft-load of immigrants from Africa was spotted sailing into the port of Jávea (Alicante) on Friday.
The first was seen the day before, carrying eight people, believed to be Algerian nationals.
Yesterday’s jerry-built dinghy, which was not in suitable conditions for sailing across the open seas, was seen 30 miles off the coast carrying six north Africans.
It is the first time that immigrants attempting to sail into Spain from Africa have tried to dock as far north as Jávea, with the ports of Andalucía and Murcia and very occasionally the southern Costa Blanca being the main destinations.
Red Cross volunteers attended to the occupants of the raft, who were said to be in a good state of health despite their ordeal.
The coastguard managed to spot them from the Cabo de la Nao.
They have not ruled out that more may be en route.
