Bankia's Menorca customers will have to sail to Mallorca to visit their 'local' branch
BANKIA has now told its customers on the island of Menorca that they will have to travel to Mallorca – their nearest branch – if they need assistance in person.
The entity has sent out a circular to its account-holders to say that on April 26, all its branches in Menorca will shut down and be transferred to a new office in Mallorca.
According to the letter, the new branch 'will continue to attend' customers 'by a team of professionals offering the best service' and that the office move will 'not give rise to any variations' in clients' 'financial conditions', nor 'change their usual operations'.
It then invites customers to 'come and visit the new branch' and 'meet them in person'.
This is likely to be difficult for the majority of Bankia's customers at its three branches in Mahón (Maó) and Ciutadella, given that they will have to travel 33 miles across the sea to get to it.
They will now need to catch a ferry to visit their bank branch where matters cannot be dealt with by telephone or internet banking, such as paying in cash or cheques, collecting replacement debit or credit cards, and signing documents – which is required for almost all transactions.
