The building is located at the foot of the “Camino de Santiago”, in the Municipality of Caldas de Reis, the penultimate stage of the Portuguese Way. This building, built in 1970 and fully restored in 2019, houses the “Aires do Umia” Hostel, on the 1st and 2nd Floor. In addition to a one-bedroom tourist apartment with a terrace on the 1st Floor overlooking the Umia River.
On the ground floor there is a commercial premises with a studio, bathroom and warehouse (photography shop).
The building has a privileged location, in the centre of Caldas de Reis, 20 m from the Umia River and opposite the most emblematic point of this thermal town, “Las Burgas de Agua Caliente” which rise above Calle Real.
The main access is located at the foot of the Camino de Santiago, which is why the hostel serves the numerous pilgrims who decide to stop on this stage of the Camino. The accommodation has four rooms, each with its own private bathroom and ten beds in total. On the 2nd floor there is a double room (Room 3) and two family rooms (Room 2 and 1) each with three single beds, as well as an office with all the necessary equipment and utensils so that guests can have breakfast or any meal of the day. On the 1st floor there is a deluxe double room with the space and furniture necessary to have breakfast in the same room; a small Machine Room with a 300 litre reserve tank. and space for storing material, as well as a small Reception Room.
On the rest of the 1st floor, independently of the Accommodation, there is a one-bedroom tourist apartment, with a kitchen, living room and a wonderful 30 m2 terrace with views of the Umia River and the Botanical Garden of the Villa. This apartment has two entrances, one from the main street via a staircase from the ground floor (the building does not have an elevator) and another pedestrian and vehicular access, via an alley located 6 meters from the main entrance.
The building has been completely renovated, in compliance with the regulations established by Historical Heritage, as it is located on the Camino de Santiago. Its four facades have been recently restored, including the roof. It also has a non-trafficable under-roof, used for storage or storage of materials, with access from the 2nd floor.
The restoration work included a new electrical and sanitary installation. The natural gas supply was installed and the accommodation was equipped with hot water radiator heating and the boiler was installed on the 1st floor. Two heat pumps were located on the terrace, one supplies air conditioning (hot/cold) to the 2nd floor and the other to the 1st floor.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that it has an excellent fiber optic service, providing very good connectivity to the entire building.
