The main entrance hall to the house provides access to one downstairs bedroom, impressive stairway heading to the first floor, and corridor leading to the living areas. Along the corridor there is a large bathroom with wet room. The corridor leads to a lounge with fireplace. There is also a door to the kitchen.....And what a kitchen. Fully equipped including immense industrial catering fridges and freezers, dining area, and patio door leading to the parking area. There is also access to a wine cellar. The kitchen is also half open plan to a very large family lounge and dining rooms, again with a fireplace. From here there is access to a large utility room, that then leads into the vast garage. This has been used for various fridge freezers, BBQ area, summer kitchen, and storage. It obviously has potential for more bedrooms if the house was to be used by several families. From the main lounge there is also access to another hall which could be used for dining, games room etc. It is currently a trophy room, and will be left empty.
The first floor is accessed via the stairway from the entrance hall, it has beautiful glazing allowing lots of light in. There are 5 bedrooms in total, all large, and all having access to various roof terraces. The first two bedrooms share a jack and Jill bathroom, and then the 3rd and 4th also have a shared bathroom. Then the main bedroom has its own stunning en-suite bathroom, and dressing room. All bedrooms have air-conditioning, hot and cold.
From the enormous roof terraces it is possible to admire the gardens, the mountains, the pool area etc.
Speaking of which the pool area is what one would expect for such an impressive property. It has a built in Jacuzzi, Island which can be dry or partially submerged. In the photos the water is green as the water is cheap and can be changed for very little money, and the water used for irrigation. From the photos you will see a stunning sunken garden with stairs leading down from the pool terrace.
Its not often that you can describe a million euro property as a bargain, but this is one of those occasions. Simply amazing
Salinas is a small village but with all the amenities. Several friendly bars and restaurants. The town hall are open to business ideas in the countryside, particularly with regards to rustic tourism, and anything creating employment and money for the area.
For a small place the small town has many social activities which are often free, and sponsored by local government. The town also has its popular sports centre and outdoor pool, junior school, regular outside market.
The town also has it Moros and Cristianos fiestas for which the locals are very passionate about.
What about Salinas ? I’ve lived close bye 18 years and, although I’ve built up many friends and contacts, you too can soon do this. It’s a small town so local people soon start recognising you and both Spanish and ex pats embrace newcomers, and offer help in many areas. The town hall are incredibly helpful and friendly.
There are various facebook groups where you will benefit from the experience of others making your new life easy to adapt to.
I say it’s a small place, but it has the typical local shops for meat or bread etc, wherever possible I like to support the smaller local businesses, and you will find some butcherers, and bakers within the town where you will get a more personal service, and build up a relationship with the owners, staff and clients
Sax is 5 minutes drive away which has a greater selection of supermarkets including Consum that stocks international foods, as well as a fantastic fresh fish counter, vast range of cheeses, vegetables and cured meats, as well as the typical items that you would hope to find in any major supermarket chain.
If you are worried about how you will manage with the Spanish health system, then worry no more. Salinas has its own health centre, and Sax has a 24-hour medical centre with English some speaking doctors and nurses, so does the Elda hospital which is only 15 minute drive away from Salinas. The standard of health care here is excellent.
There is a bus service to Sax where you then have more options to get either a train, tax or bus to other surrounding towns, and Alicante.
Do you like culture, history, art, theatre ? Between Salinas and Sax there is no shortage. Both of the towns have a theatre, and a newly built auditorium.
The locals celebrate their rich culture on many occasions throughout the year, with the pinnacle being the Moors and Christians, something that really needs to be seen to be believed. From the re-enactment of Conquests and Victory celebrations from many years again with blunderbusses and cannons firing in the streets, with all participants in ancient military costume they really are spectacular events. Then there are the “Cuartalillos” which a group owned buildings owned by revellers which ae filled with food and drinks and offer a base for the days (and nights) of celebrations. There is no greater honour for members to invite guests to eat and drink with them. For sure at some time you will be invited, just don’t make the mistake of offering to pay, as your hosts will be most disappointed. They save all year to have the privilege of inviting people.
Even after 18 years here I don’t know what all of the fiestas are, it just becomes a part of life to walk down the street one day and find a few hundred people in costume or doing activities which their great grandparents and relatives before then also did.
The carnival is more recent but things like the burial of the Sardines and the day where almost all of the town walks to the mountain to pick a sprig of fresh Rosemary have been done for many years. Suffice to say although you may not know what is quite happening in some of the fiestas, they are always good fun, and nearly always end up with some alcohol consumption !
Speaking of which there are over 50 bars within the two towns towns, many serving tapas food, menus of the day which area aimed at providing hearty food to the workers for exceptional prices. 10 euros can buy a 3-course meal in many places, and often include, beer, wine of coffee. If you ask for wine and they put a bottle on the table…don’t feel you need to drink it.
