KING Felipe VI's annual Christmas Eve speech once again included a covert appeal to secessionist politicians, as well as raising concerns about young adults' struggle to afford housing and violence against women.
Valencian Community bids farewell to García Antón
13/08/2009
There was a massive attendance at the San Vicente Ferrer church in San Vicente del Raspeig yesterday for the funeral of José Ramón García Antón, the Conseller who died on Tuesday afternoon.
Special cars had to be used for the more than six hundred floral tributes to the late Conseller, whose coffin was born by the three vice-presidents of the Valencian Government: Vicente Rambla, Gerardo Camps and Juan Cotino, as well as Consellers Serafin Castellano, Rafael Blasco, Mario Flores and Manuel Cervera, all of who acted as pallbearers.
The church where the ceremony was held was packed, with the entire Valencian Government attending, as well as Rita Barbera, the Mayoress of Valencia, and almost all the Mayors from Alicante Province.
Special arrangements had been made so that the thousands of people outside the church were able to follow the service on loudspeakers.
After the funeral service, the Consell had a brief meeting inside San Vicente del Raspeig Town Hall, during which a unanimous vote decided that the late Conseller would receive the highest distinction of the Valencian Community, which would be handed to his widow, San Vicente del Raspeig Mayoress Luisa Pastor, as part of the next October 9th celebrations.
