Elderly British man murders wife at their Costa Blanca nursing home
A BRITISH man aged 86 has been arrested on suspicion of killing his wife, 79, at the nursing home where they both lived.
The accused is believed to have attacked the victim, also British, with a knife at the Orpea home for the elderly in the Muchavista beach area of El Campello, just north of Alicante, before trying to slash his wrists.
His wounds were only superficial and he was treated at a nearby health centre whilst under arrest.
Staff at the nursing home say the couple, who shared the same room, had never previously been involved in any violent incidences and the deceased had never reported her husband for abuse.
At around the same time on Sunday on the other side of the country, a man aged 91 was arrested for stabbing his wife, of the same age, in the neck in Villanueva del Fresno (Badajoz, Extremadura).
The victim was operated on at the Perpetuo Socorro Hospital in Badajoz and is in intensive care, whilst her husband, who allegedly tried to take an overdose of pharmaceutical drugs, has been taken into the psychiatric ward.
