Michael Fassbender and Alicia Vikander marry in Ibiza
X-MEN regular Michael Fassbender has married Oscar winner and future Tomb Raider star Alicia Vikander in a 'secret' ceremony in Ibiza this weekend, according to celebrity bible Hola.
German-Irish Fassbender, 40, and Swedish Alicia, 29, arrived on the Balearic party island on Tuesday to start preparing their big day, reports claim.
The rest of the guests trickled in over the next few days.
They exchanged vows in a private country estate in the centre of Ibiza surrounded by family and friends.
Alicia's main moment of international fame came when she played Kitty in the silver-screen adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's doorstopper Anna Karenina, although she has since fleshed out major characters such as Tasha in Son of a Gun, Gaby Teller in The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Heather Lee in Jason Bourne, and her most prominent and daring part in recent years, that of Gerda Wegener in The Danish Girl.
Next year, she will play the lead role of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, taking over from the original star Angelina Jolie.
Alicia, who lives in London, has won numerous awards, with four – including an Oscar – for The Danish Girl, and has been nominated for countless others including the BAFTA Rising Star Orange Prize.
As well as cameo roles in Agatha Christie's Poirot and Holby City for British TV, Fassbender, a German national who graduated from LAMDA, has played major roles in numerous blockbusters including Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, Assassin's Cred, Alien: Covenant, as Mr Rochester in Jane Eyre, several X-Men films, as Edwin Epps in 12 Years a Slave, the lead role in the eponymous production about the life of late Apple founder Steve Jobs – and the main part in The Counselor, partly filmed on the urbanisation Monte Pego between Alicante and Valencia in 2013.
He will be back on global screens next year as Erik Lehnsherr, or Magneto, in X-Men: Dark Phoenix.
Ibiza is becoming a popular celebrity haunt for tying the knot – Moon Landing artist James Blunt married fellow Brit Sofia Wellesley, granddaughter of the 8th Duke of Wellington three years ago on a private beach in the Balearic island he has lived on for 11 years, and where the couple are now bringing up their 16-month-old son.
