NEARLY 25,000 workers are due a refund in the next few days for having overpaid in Social Security contributions, according to Spain's ministry of employment.
Around €26.1 million is to be paid back to people who combined employment with additional self-employed activities in 2018, meaning that as well as paying a small percentage in Social Security through their wages and their employers paying the majority of their stamp, these 24,871 contributors were also paying just over €278 per month as their self-employment fee.
As a result, they are entitled to a reimbursement of up to 50% of the latter, where at least one of their sources of income - through their jobs or through self-employment - exceeded €12,917.36 over the course of last year.
The amount in refunds and the number of people are similar to those of 2017 - a year ago, the State reimbursed around €25.5m to 24,735 workers.
Refunds started yesterday (Monday, April 29).
Anyone who thinks they may qualify should speak to their accountant or legal advisor who handles their tax returns.
