Ángel Schlesser wins National Fashion Design Award worth €30,000
26/05/2022
GLOBALLY-FAMOUS clothing creator Ángel Schlesser has been given the National Fashion Design Award in tribute to his long and successful career which has helped to put high-end Spanish prêt-à-porter on the world map.
Also well known for his perfume collection – on sale in cosmetics chains nationwide, especially in Druni and El Corte Inglés – Schlesser, 65, received his prize from the ministry of culture and sports after intense scrutiny of the merits of Spanish designers by a panel of expert judges.
The Santander-born fashion creator was lauded for his 'very full artistic and business career' who 'reinforced a certain look', based upon 'pure and innovative lines', making it 'instantly recognisable internationally'.
“His works pay close attention to the modern working woman, blazing a trail for younger generations of fashion designers,” the judges said.
The prize category was launched very recently, linked to the National Fashion Awards spearheaded by Queen Letizia after her husband, Felipe VI, was crowned King of Spain.
It means Schlesser will now have €30,000 in prize money to spend.
The judges' panel was headed up by the director-general for cultural industries, intellectual property and cooperation, Adriana Moscoso del Prado Hernández, with assistant director-general for promotion of cultural industries, Carlo Penna Gómez, as deputy chair.
